The MSM has been a twitter about McCain giving up on experience and picking Palin just to shore up his base.
Well, looks like McCain has been belittling Obama so much on the experience question that Obama gave up change to defensively pick Biden. (Obama could of just about won it if he had picked Hillary- but he didn't even consider her). NOw that Obama has picked an old Washington insider, McCain has pivoted and stolen change by picking Palin and going back to his roots of being a maverick and reformer.
McCain has the street cred to claim the maverick label and Palin also has a claim to this which fits in nicely. Obama's whole basis has been change, but he went against his own motto by picking a Washington insider. Obama let McCain steal the chagne montra.
And Palin does more than shore up the base, which she does, but she also gets some disaffected Hillary voters. Don't let the MSM tell you that she will get all the 18 million votes that Hillary received. Nobody thinks that. But in a close election, the margins are what the fuss is for. She will appeal to some women that just don't vote abortion only. Plus now that Obama's campaign attacked her inexperience of being a small town mayor, that fits in with the arguement of elitism against Obama. Sarah now represents small town America against urban Obama, a fight which benefits McCain.
Now in a fight everybody remembers the right hook that knocks out an opponent(Palin pick), but you have to also remember the jabs that got your opponent to react and defend(jabs against inexperience) that set up the right hook.
